The 70 percent

The rule states that 70 percent of your social posts should brand-building content. Brand-building content refers to posts that are aimed at establishing yourself as an expert in your field. This could include blog posts, infographics, videos, or slideshows that showcase the knowledge and expertise of your business. 70 percent is a sizeable amount but it will help you establish credibility on social media sites which is extremely important for growing brand awareness and gaining a brand voice!

The 20 percent

Another 20 percent of your content should be posting shared content. This helps avoid the need to consistently creating new content and instead you can share proven content from other sources. The most effective way to do this is by asking yourself: “Is this a trusted source I’m sharing from, does it help my audience, and does it interest my users?” You always want to make sure your content is focused on your target audience. This is a critical component of your success.

The 10 percent

The final 10 percent of your content should be self-promotional. This includes posts that encourage users to subscribe, share your content, or visit your website. If you’re looking for more information on the 70/20/20 rule social media marketing strategy download our ebook!

These types of posts should have a clear call to action. A call to action that clearly explains to the user what they should do and what they will gain from it.

These types of posts get people to your website or are aimed to drive sales, and you’ll provide just enough information to hook your readers into clicking the post you just created and attracting visitors to your website.

The reason you only want to do 10 percent here is for obvious reasons. You don’t want to annoy your readers with too much promotional content or they’ll feel like they are being sold to.
